I switched to the old school style safety razor because I found a deal for 100 blades around $8 — I use one blade per week. Cost for shaving blades just dropped under $5 per year.

I don’t want this to seem like an ad. It’s not. I just got fed up with some refills costing almost $5 per blade.

In case people are curious about the shave:

Just as smooth. Slower process. Tip: short quick strokes. Takes a couple days to get used to. Worth it in every way. Zero plastic in packaging. Blades are in wax paper — super old school.

I can’t remember what I paid for the safety razor itself but it was on insane discount at bed bath beyond after Christmas.

Just make sure to watch the chin area while shaving with this style of razor blade. I don't have any problem with any area of my face, except my chin. It seems to be the most frequent spot where I nick myself compared to a typical disposable safety razor from Gillette.

Safety razors are great. Given the low cost of the razors, I tend to swap them out more frequently and wind up with a higher quality shave than I got from my old disposables. Far less waste, too.

I also bought a little hand held mirror, so I can shave while I'm in the shower. I just lather up my face with my soap, shave, and rinse it all off as part of the shower process. Ends up saving me time in the morning, too.
