A few days back I saw a til about the word 'sonder,' meaning "that each random passerby is living a life as vivid and complex as your own."

There should be another word for people that realize that, and do something about it. Fuckin heroes

In my experience working at different schools, I've found that custodians, groundskeepers, and so on, are disproportionately more likely to be nice and friendly people. I wonder why.

This is barely relevant and maybe I'm just taking to hear myself talk, but I recall looking at a report that was an ethnic breakdown of the demographics of my university. I remember the African-American percentage was really low, and I was all "What? This can't be right! I actually have a lot of black classmates!"

Then I started thinking about my black classmates and I realized that nearly every one of them was not African American, but rather plain ol' African. International students. I've been out of school for about three years now, but looking back I can only think of two black Americans in our major, and I think one of them was the son of immigrants. My society wasn't quite as progressive as I had initially thought.
