iirc this was in Long Island NY. She wasn't a match for her boss, but by her donating her kidney to someone else, he boss was moved up the list to get her own kidney. The company did not give the woman the same amount of leave her boss got (FMLA is 12 weeks, employers can give more, but they're not legally obligated to). While her boss was still home recovering from her kidney transplant, the woman was expected back at work. After her attendance became sporadic due to complication from DONATING HER FUCKING KIDNEY TO SAVE HER BOSSES LIFE they fired her.

*I want to add that after familiarizing myself with the story again that the woman did not take 12 weeks of leave, only 4. FMLA is a guaranteed 12 weeks off if a physician says that its medically necessary. In this case, she chose to return early.
