Don't forget, throughout history Southern Christianity consistently excused and accommodated slavery. So the rampant amorality and hypocrisy of its modern incarnation, evangelicalism, shouldn't be too surprising. They never had a moral compass to begin with. Ironically, Jesus spends a long time talking about religious hypocrites in the Bible, but I guess none of that ever sticks with these types.

I remember hearing about the anti-Christ in church and Catholic school and thinking, “this is stupid who would ever follow someone so outwardly evil?”
