The Constitution prohibits the president from accepting payments from foreign and domestic governments. President Trump owns hotels and other properties that are frequented by foreign and domestic government officials.

These facts, claim plaintiffs in two lawsuits that have cleared several hurdles, add up to repeated and multiple violations of the Constitution by the president.

Didn’t Trump say he was distancing himself from his business?

Yes, days before his inauguration, Mr. Trump resigned his role and turned over management of the Trump Organization to his two eldest sons and a longtime company executive through a trust.

Past presidents have used a blind trust, in which an independent trustee reported to them on the value of the trust but not what was in it. But Mr. Trump’s trust is controlled by his family and a close associate and he receives updates about his business. He remains its sole beneficiary.

Donald J. Trump still owns his properties through the and whose sole beneficiary is Donald J. Trump Revocable Trust Donald Trump Jr. and Allen Weisselberg which is controlled by Donald J. Trump and whose sole beneficiary is still owns his properties through the Donald J. Trump Revocable Trust Donald Trump Jr. and Allen Weisselberg which is controlled by

After he was elected, ethics experts from both parties urged Mr. Trump to put all of his assets with the potential for conflicts of interest into a blind trust. Mr. Trump and his lawyers have cited several reasons why they did not, including that “conflicts of interest laws simply do not apply to the president.”

The lawsuits allege that the president has violated the Constitution.

Two lawsuits accuse Mr. Trump of violating the foreign and domestic emoluments clauses of the Constitution: one brought by the attorneys general of Maryland and Washington, D.C., and the other by Democratic members of Congress. The foreign clause reads:

Article 1, Section 9, Clause 8 No Title of Nobility shall be granted by the United States: And no Person holding any Office of Profit or Trust under them, shall, without the Consent of the Congress, accept of any present, Emolument, Office, or Title, of any kind whatever, from any King, Prince, or foreign State.

In its motion to dismiss the attorneys general lawsuit, the Justice Department argued that the foreign emoluments clause was meant only to bar federal officials from providing a service to a foreign government. That motion was denied.

“The president was advancing an absurdly narrow definition of emoluments that was contrary to government precedent and practice,” said Norman L. Eisen, chairman of the Citizens for Responsibilities and Ethics in Washington and co-counsel for the plaintiffs. “The government has applied the emoluments clauses in very broad fashion for centuries.”

However, the lawsuits are a historic constitutional test because the definition of an illegal emolument has never been litigated. Here are some examples of alleged violations they cite:

No hold on just one minute.

He gave a speech and near that podium was a table and on that table was stack after stack of documents which clearly showed he had divested himself from all Trump businesses. There was even a lawyer lady nearby. /s

My question is, would his supporters even care if he is proven to be the criminal most Americans believe he is? Like.. How could you just not care about things like this then somehow deflect onto Obama/Hilary/AOC/Soros/etc. It's so frustrating to even talk to them because they change the subject immediately when things like this are brought up. Im afraid of what'll happen if Trump doesn't just resign and his supporters keep supporting him even after he's proven to be a liar.

Edit: Just to hijack my own top comment after getting some insane messages from people telling me to prove the president is a liar, trying to explain to me that HRC was getting money from Saudi Arabia first, and that the investigation has turned up "nothing that has to do with real collusion."

First, if you see ZERO evidence of the POTUS being a liar feel free to look no further than him claiming to not have known about the payments to Stormy Daniels when he was in the fucking room when they talked about it. He was there every step of the way. Second, no. I'm not going to waste my time with disingenuous people. I literally bring up people changing the subject in my original post and get messages from people going off on tangets "what about hilary" Let's talk about the current POTUS. Let's stop changing the subject.

Lastly, there is no way you somehow know everything Mueller is doing. You have to wait until he releases his report before claiming he has nothing even though it's already apparent there is ALOT OF SOMETHINGS. There are too many indictments for this to be fake news. There are too many guilty pleas for this to be a witch hunt. I'm tired of people disingenuously asking for sources they'll never read. I'm tired of people selectively deciding what they respond to when presented with facts. I'm just exhausted and we're only 2 years into this President. Stop pretending like this man is doing a great service to America.
