"The good thing about science is that it's true whether or not you believe in it." It's very depressing that people don't seem to understand this basic fact.

I think I remember reading somewhere that a majority of people who survived the plague had an immunity to it (like that caused by a vaccine!).

The Plague didn't disappear though...... it is still endemic in many areas of the world and pops up in the west when they travel to those places. Madagascar, Zambia, India, Malawi, Algeria, China, Peru, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo all have 10s or hundreds of cases every year.

The bubonic plague was in active outbreak in California from the 1890s to 1920s, and wasn't declared eradicated until 1959.

Pneumonic plague is still spread by rodents in Africa, Asia and the Americas with 500-1000 deaths each year. Pneumonic plague is still 99% fatal if not treated with antibiotics.
