I made it up to the top of a volcano in Hawaii at night time, far above any clouds, and it literally brought tears to my eyes. I could see everything, the galaxy, tens of thousands of stars, it was once in a lifetime.

Oh man. I've commented this before, but I used to do special operations on a ship that was hundreds of miles from any coast line. Because of the operations, we would navigate with zero sources of light shining from the outside of the ship. On a night with a full moon, the moon was almost too distracting to see anything else. The nights with no moon where absolutely amazing. I swear there was more white in the sky than there was blackness. The milky way was a distinct streak across the sky. You would also see a shooting star streak across the sky almost every other minute. It was one of those moments that made you forget that time exists and you kind of just get lost in the moment. Before you know it, your neck starts to hurt because you've been looking up for so long. It's beautiful.
