Johnny Depp will no longer be a part of the Pirates Of The Caribbean films.

With Disney Studios planning a major reboot of the flagging Pirates Of The Caribbean franchise, Johnny Depp will no longer return as Captain Jack Sparrow.

Over the past 15 years, Depp has headlined five Pirates Of The Caribbean films - The Curse of the Black Pearl, Dead Man's Chest, At World's End, On Stranger Tides and Dead Men Tell No Tales.

The original script writer of the franchise, Stuart Beattie, confirmed the news to Daily Mail at a recent event. "I think he's had a great run. Obviously, he's made that character his own and it's become the character he's most famous for now. And kids all over the world love him as that character. So I think it's been great for him, it's been great for us, so I'm just very, very happy about it," he said.

According to reports, the Pirates Of The Caribbean films have crossed $4.5 billion worldwide to become one of the highest grossing film-series of all time. However, the most recently released film of the franchise, Dead Men Tell No Tales, was the lowest performing.

Meanwhile, Depp is awaiting the release of Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, which is slated to hit the theatres on November 16.

Against all odds, they made 5 successful movies based on a ride at Disney World.

It was a franchise that grew from almost non-existent seed.

And now they're rebooting it.

So my question is: Why not pick another ride?

I mean I get that it makes sense to go with a known success.

But at the same time, the original franchise isn't that old, and it was such a crazy gamble of an idea, why not take that gamble on another ride?

They should retire the character. It's not like the character existed prior to the movie. Depp created a majority of the character.

If they're doing another Pirates movie, have it revolve around a brand new character and let the new actor create something unique like Depp did in the beginning.
