Obviously a 5,000 piece puzzle takes the same amount of time as five 1,000 piece puzzles since the difficulty scales linearly. That is why a typical 2 piece puzzle takes about 1 second and thus a typical 1,000 piece puzzle takes ~500 seconds, i.e. roughly 8 minutes.
