This is crazy. LAOP says that they are being bled dry and that maintenance/repairs and school fees are "their mortgage" right now but if they had actually bought the house, they would have had an actual mortgage payment on top of that. It sounds like they can't afford this house.

A lawyer was recently disbarred in my state on similar facts (major fuck up, charged clients while trying to fix his fuck up, significant harm to clients). Fuck this lawyer.

I feel really sorry for OP, but 20 grand on repairs after the point when they realise that they don't own the house... Essential maintenance or not, that sounds like a crazy decision.
