This isn't the worst case I've heard. A math professor was once forced to leave the plane because someone next to him thought that the equations he was writing down (he was on his way to a meeting) were actually arabic, and so thought he was a terrorist.
I studied arabic for 6 months and over that time had numerous people comment on ''why'' with a suspicious tone and when I had tutoring sessions in the library there were other people uncomfortable with my practice phrases. Yes, how terrifying to hear ''hello how are you i'm glad youre well''
