In the restaurant I work in we used to have dried chillies in bunches hanging up from the ceiling, but obviously to keep them preserved they're probably dipped in paraffin wax.
Had a fully grown man, not pick one off and eat, but actually put his face near the bunch, let one go into his mouth and bite it off, then complained it was spicy.
