Good article. No surprises. “It’s not about wanting a pay raise or extra income, It’s just about wanting a livable wage.”

Genuine question here--what IS a livable wage?

I'm 25 years old. I live in DC. I make 41.5k a year, with benefits. I contribute less than $100 to my 401k each paycheck. I live with 2 other people in a 3br2b house. My monthly rent is literally all of one of my biweekly paychecks. I walk to work both ways so I don't have to spend too much money on commuting on the subway. I make dinner every night so I can bring leftovers to work the next day. I save my "eating out meal" for weekends when I hang it with my bf.

My life isn't horrible. But I sure do scrimp a lot, and I'd be SOL if one of my paychecks came a few weeks too late. And while I never thought I'd be loaded at 25 making 41k, I didn't think it would be like this either. So what IS a living wage? It seems so insulting to all working class folks and people in other countries to say something like "at least 60k."
