The Reason Chris Pratt Stole His 'Guardians Of The Galaxy' Costume Will Melt Your Heart

Chris Pratt is officially our hero, and we're not talking about his role in "Guardians of the Galaxy."

In a heartwarming interview with Panzer TV, Pratt explained that he took home pieces of his character's costume so that if the movie is a hit and he is regarded as a superhero, he can go visit sick children in the hospital. Yeah. Read this:

"I stole the jacket and some of the wardrobe so that, if this movie comes out and does what everyone hopes it can, I can follow the example of someone -- say, like, a Russell Wilson, you know -- and go visit kids," Pratt said, referring to the Seattle Seahawks quarterback who visits children's hospitals every week.

"If it was a big enough movie, to where it would mean something to a kid who’s sick in the hospital for ['Guardians' character] Peter Quill or Star-Lord to come visit them, I’ll do that," Pratt said. "I think that’s awesome, man. That would give me real meaning for this movie, you know?"

"Right now, it means high profile, cool jobs coming up, big press tour, and all the excitement of it all. But none of that really means anything. The coolest things would be that my son can one day see this and that maybe I can go affect some kids in a positive way, [and] be a good role model for them," the 35-year-old continued.

Pratt and his wife, Anna Faris, are parents to their son Jack, who was born in August 2012.

So my friends and I made some pretty sweet Avengers Halloween costumes 4 years ago. One friend put somewhere around 200 hours into his costume and built the Iron Man Mk. 3 armor. I put around 45-50 hours into mine and built Hawkeye’s quiver and bow. About two weeks after Halloween we volunteered at Children’s Hospital for a few hours and visited the kids there. They absolutely loved it. I even did what no nurse or parent could do for the past two days- I was able to get a kid to eat his sandwich. He had cancer and the treatment took away his appetite. I told him I would give him an arrow out of my quiver for every bite he took. By the end, he was 18 arrows richer with a full stomach. I’ll never forget that kid.

You don’t have to be a celebrity to volunteer and help some kids out. All you need is the will to make it happen. I encourage anyone who wants to help to give it a shot. I could tell that my friends and I really helped the kids and their families. Seeing the kids smile for the first time in a long time brought most of the moms there to tears. My sister (who was Black Widow) had mascara running down her face 30 minutes into the visit.

He's not wearing a costume, but here he is visiting patients at the Seattle Children's Hospital in 2016. [from his Instagram]

"Madisen is #strongagainstcancer. What an awesome kid with such a beautiful smile. She's a lover of art and fashion and she's going places. Thank you Seattle Children's for the opportunity to come by and brighten some days. My heart is full."

"Rowan was Groot for Halloween and his brother was Rocket. What an awesome kid. Great parents and from a great family. You're in my prayers tonight little man. Stay strong."

"Ever since Jack's premature birth, we have a special affinity for the NICU (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit). Today I spent a little time with Coen and Zeon, twins who were born too early only a pound and a half each. Thanks to the doctors and nurses at the Seattle Children's Hospital, they boys are doing fine."

In a sense that’s quite classy of him. BTW the reason he mentioned Russell Wilson, the Seattle Seahawks quarterback, is (I am assuming) because he went to high school in Washington state.

Also, Chris Pratt singing Ohhh Child things are gonna get easier in an impromptu stage at the children hospital while challenging one of these children to dance battle him would be a dream come true. Someone should blog that if it happens.

EDIT: Some people in the comment were asking about what happen to costumes after a film finished production. Most of the times, the costumes department has zero says about how would these costumes be dealt with. It's ultimately up to the producers and the studio. Sometimes costumes are given to certain cast members as a result of being included in their contract, but usually these costumes will be fire-sold to crew members only. Most studios have the policy that no asset can be sold, promised, or given by anyone but the executive producers. Everything is held until all edits are complete and the time for re-shoots is past. Some studios have their own rental house business so props and clothes would be gathered over there. In certain instances, for example in TV series, many of these clothes will usually be transferred to another show if the origin show got cancelled.
