This is what pisses me off about when people say put the guns down in Chicago. If you're not from Chicago saying things like that is a slap to the face to the people in the streets. They use it as a protection and the violence is a bi-product of gang culture and coordinated segregation in the city. You can't put the fucking gun down if your life consists of constantly being on your toes in a kill or be killed environment artificially created.
This shit is so real, people don't talk about the violence that occurs because of the lack of options-- they're seen as another statistic and are abandoned, left to their own devices and act out of desperation. I've been in situations where I've been desperate because I was so starving growing up, I've had to steal before just so my sister can eat. If it weren't for my mothers persistence on us not hanging on the corner and getting into gangs I could have ended up dead or god knows where. This shit will follow you and haunt you, but no one talks about it because no one cares about the hood.
