I hiked up Cascade Mountain in the Adirondacks, NY during the Perseids shower in hopes of capturing meteors. After not seeing much activity, I turned my camera towards the Milky Way and its reflection glimmering in a pool of water atop the mountain summit. [OC][2048x1365]

This is a series of 12 shots in a stack. As a result, the human eye cannot see the Milky Way exactly as I have captured it here. This is because of the methods I used to capture it; long exposure and image stacking. To us, the Milky Way appears as a band of hazy, starry clouds. Cameras enable for long exposures of the stars, which allow for far more detail and color to be seen in the final product. This image also contains hints of green atmospheric airglow.

I took 12 shots in an effort to stack and thus reduce noise in the final image, making for a much cleaner product than a standard single Milky Way image. One of these shots was taken specifically for the foreground at around 8 minutes long. This enabled the mountain landscape to be seen properly in the image. Otherwise, it would have been a silhouette against the Milky Way.

All images were taken right after another without the camera moving in any way. Canon 5D Mark IV with Canon 24-70 f/2.8L II lens. Each shot was 20 seconds, f/2.8, ISO 6400 except for the last image which was 8 minutes, ISO 800, f/2.8.
