Damn he went quickly. He said only yesterday that he was stopping treatment. So sad, RIP

I'm far from a Republican, but always admired him. His service to this country. I remember he stood up for Obama in 2008 during one of his rallies when one of his supporters called Obama an arab. McCain corrected her and said Obama is a good man. My respect for him grew even more. My deepest sympathies to his family and friends.

From his New York Times obit:

“Shot down over Hanoi, suffering broken arms and a shattered leg, he was subjected to solitary confinement for two years and beaten frequently. Often he was suspended by ropes lashing his arms behind him. He attempted suicide twice. His weight fell to 105 pounds. He rejected early release to keep his honor and to avoid an enemy propaganda coup or risk demoralizing his fellow prisoners.

He finally cracked under torture and signed a “confession.” No one believed it, although he felt the burden of betraying his country. To millions of Americans, Mr. McCain was the embodiment of courage: a war hero who came home on crutches, psychologically scarred and broken in body, but not in spirit. He underwent long medical treatments and rehabilitation, but was left permanently disabled, unable to raise his arms over his head. Someone had to comb his hair.”

Regardless of your opinion about his adherence to stick with his party, and sometimes not back up his promises with his votes, this man really is a true American hero. He embodies some of the most admirable qualities most of us I’m sure strive for, a big one in this day and age being DECENCY. Shame on the Trump admin for beating this man while he was down and not focused on defending himself from vile slander. He will be remembered as he was: a war hero, a fiery patriot, a man who followed his principles while being admonished for it. This man embodies some of the best qualities of a true American. Rest In Peace John, your sacrifices will not be forgotten.
