We used this analogy in University but in that case there was a third example: undefined, which was explained as the complete absence of a toilet roll holder.
The illustration obviously works as I am reminded of it every time I reach for a roll of toilet paper.

Except when you reach for the second one, if you forget to check if there's a roll there you end up with some other random object in your hand instead
