William Shatner Joins Mark Hamill In Requesting Carrie Fisher Receive A Star On The Hollywood Walk Of Fame

When the stars of two of science fiction’s biggest franchises join forces, anything is possible — even replacing Donald Trump’s star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame with a star honouring the late Carrie Fisher.

Mark Hamill first floated the idea after vandals trashed the president’s Walk of Fame star, leading to Hollywood City Council voting to remove the star.

Amidst the fracas, the “Star Wars” actor had a genius idea, suggesting Trump’s star be replaced with one paying tribute to “someone who really earned it.”

A week later, the star of an entirely different sci-fi franchise chimed in.

“Hey @starwars,” tweeted “Star Trek” star William Shatner, asking if it was true that Fisher does not have a star, and wondering “what are we going to do about it?”

Hey @starwars is it true that @carrieffisher does not have a star on the walk of fame? 😳If it is what are we going to do about it? 🤔 — William Shatner (@WilliamShatner) August 14, 2018

In subsequent tweets, Shatner says that he’s reached out to a member of Fisher’s family to see if there are “any issues” before pursuing the idea any further.

I just asked a member of Carrie’s family if there are any issues. Again let’s see what they say first before we do anything. — William Shatner (@WilliamShatner) August 14, 2018

In any case, there may be a bit of a wait before Fisher could even receive a star.

According to the Walk of Fame’s website, only one posthumous star is granted each year, with a five-year waiting period after the death of the nominated star; presuming Fisher (who passed away in late 2016) is nominated and is then granted a star, the earliest it could happen would be 2021.

Hamill received his star on the Walk of Fame in March 2018, while Shatner was inducted into the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1983.

The Hollywood Walk of Fame has a 5 year moratorium on accepting nominations for people who have died. That means someone can not be nominated for a star until at least 5 years after their date of death. Because of when she died Carrie won't be eligible for a star until January of 2022.

Skywalker and Kirk in the same post? What is this? A crossover episode?
