I just moved out of my parents house, and they always gave me a hard time for responding to my cat's meows with, "Yes, you're a kitty, I know." Once they pointed it out I realized how odd it was.
However my roommate's dialogue with her cat is almost exclusively her asking him if he's Marshall, which is indeed his name.
I talk to my dog like this and I thought it was normal, this thread makes me feel like a weirdo. Tbf, it is recommended to talk to your dog often so that they know your voice.
Edit: thank you for all the replies guys and gals. To be clear, when I first made this comment there were upvoted comments that found/implied that this is odd, I think the thread is now in favor of talking to dogs.
