Just think of all the *exposure* you'd get from a HuffPo article!

HUFFPOST is pretty bad. They invited me to write regularly on science, no payment but good for exposure. Yes, I said. Couple of years later the articles were not showing in the page anymore. Contacted them and said policies had changed, I now had to drive traffic to the article by myself, if sufficient they would post it. Closed my account that same day.

I had an unpaid internship for 2+ total years to become an X-ray / CT / MRI tech. I had to quit working because working 70+ hours a week, 7 days a week was taking its toll in bad ways. If it wasn't for my now husband who helped support me financially, I wouldn't have been able to finish, and I wouldn't have gotten my degree. They don't pay you in dollars, but "experience" they would all say. Yes let me take those Experience Bucks™ to my landlord to pay rent. You think Walmart takes Experience Bucks™?

My teacher even asked me "Why do you work and go to school don't you value your education?" To which I responded, "Well, I'm not a fan of starving ..."

Unpaid internships need to get gone. I was free labor to multiple companies during all my internships (did some at several hospitals to get a more well rounded experience). It's truly awful and it's very exclusive to the poor and disenfranchised. There's no possibility of finishing thoae sorts of programs unless you've already saved for it or have someone helping you.
