When my youngest son and I learned to Snowboard, I was quite beat up and exhausted before I got the hang of it. At the top of the hill, I asked my son if he would prefer having a younger dad.
He misinterpreted my question and said "I told Maman that she could remarry if she wished, but I'm going to hit the guy in the balls with a sledgehammer."

I learned from Reddit that "bonus dad" is the literal translation for stepdad in some European languages. I've used it with my stepdad ever since.
