2 years ago my step dad sat in this spot on the Appalachian Trail right before beginning chemo. This morning, my mom sat in the same spot to watch the sunrise on our first Father’s Day without him.

What a beautiful way of honoring him today.

I’m in a similar boat... Lost my dad when I was in high school to complications from Parkinson’s. Father’s Day is always tough.

Today I’m going to watch Austin Powers (the first one) as well as The Gremlins— two films we watched countless times together— in an effort to take some time out this Father’s Day to cherish the relationship that we had; our love that still exists.

BRB, got something in my eye.

60-yr-old man here. I have watched the entire generation before me die of cancer and lung disease brought on, mostly, by smoking. I am literally the elder patriarch of the family. Both my parents and every single aunt, uncle, and cousin from that generation are gone. My mom died in 1983 of cancer at 50 years old, and my dad hung on til 2007, and the last to go was his younger brother in 2015. All of the adult family from when I was a kid going to Christmases, Thanksgiving dinners, birthdays, etc, etc, are gone. My heart breaks and I cry inside every time I think about those times and all those wonderful people that surrounded me when I was a kid.
