Sheriff's deputy fired in Bon Homme County after winning election

In Bon Homme County, a sheriff's deputy lost his job just after winning the race for sheriff in Tuesday's primary election.

Sheriff's Deputy Mark Maggs was sent a letter by election opponent and current Sheriff Lenny Gramkow saying he was terminated moments after the race was called.

The small community was in shock Tuesday night as their primary sheriff winner Maggs posted a photo of his termination letter.

After hearing the news that his position was terminated, Maggs posted his letter on Facebook, and it ended up going viral.

"This letter is to inform you that effective immediately you are terminated from the position of deputy sheriff," the letter read.

Currently, KSFY News does not know the specific reason why Maggs was fired from deputy sheriff, but people in town said they cannot believe that their current sheriff would do something like this after losing the primary election.

"Personally, I think that the move that he did by firing him was really childish," Nick Kruse of Tyndall said. "I think the right person was picked for the job."

Maggs was unable to speak with KSFY News on Wednesday, but is planning on getting in touch Thursday regarding his termination.

KSFY News also reached out to Sheriff Gramkow, but he has yet to comment.
