I used to 'steal' change from my dad. He knew it was happening and didn't care. He'd always have a ton of change in his console and I, being an ingrate, would steal it. Sometimes he'd just give it to me directly.

He died in 2014. At some point in 2015 I commented to my family that one of the shitty side effects of him dying was that I never had change anymore. It was a joke, but also true. Anyway my uncle on my mom's side heard. He's retired, survived a pretty bad brain tumor, has diabetes. He saves all his change for me now. I'll be sitting at my grandma's, he'll walk up to me with his hands out and he'll fill my hands with change. He's not the type to write you a big gushy card or lavish you with thoughtful compliments - somehow that all makes it so much sweeter to me.
