Some interesting trends here. The dominance of platformers in the 80s and 90s, and strategy games enjoying a popularity rise around 2000 when everyone was playing Age of Empires before falling off into obscurity again... Cool stuff.

If you have the data for it, it might be better to make this a histogram that stacks and corrosponds to total volume rather than percentage.

That'd still show the relative fractions of each genre over time, but it'd make it clear if games became small fractions due to decay over time, or just from significant growth in other genres.

I think it's interesting how RPGs seem to be the only genre that remained relatively constant in this timeframe. Also I'm willing to bet the Sims were a big part of that simulation spike in the 2000s, lol.
