Grand Canyon, USA - North Kaibab Trail - This was at the end of my 1st R2R hike. I was tired, exhausted and exhilarated all at the same time. About 1.5 miles from the end I turned around and took this shot, it just popped. This is one of my favorite places on the planet. [OC][2448x3264]

Rim to rim! Wow! Thats incredible. My wife and I did a rim to river and back and that was a long day. But, truly mesmerizing.

Edit: side note. Most people shouldn’t try long hikes in the Grand Canyon. We saw someone die on that hike, and someone else was lost. It’s a stunning place, but it’s also wild. Go prepared.

Edit2: lost/dead story. My wife and I were climbing our way out in the late afternoon when we came upon the scene of a father and son performing cpr. They had been at it for over 40 minutes with no response. Another member of their group that saw the man (mid 40s) collapse had gone ahead to try and get help. We tried to assist but the man’s skin tone was very blue and he had no pulse. About an hour later rangers arrived then later still a helicopter came to collect the body.

Earlier in the day, during the time we were down near the river, we met a group of three. They were very fit and athletic 20 somethings but as I recall they only brought a water bottle. While we were with the body two of the three of that group came upon us acting very concerned. They were absolutely exhausted and had lost the third member of their group. They asked the rangers if they could get on the helicopter, but the rangers gave them supplies and worked with them to hike out as a team. By the time we left the park late the next day, the third member of their group was still missing.

I honestly never realized that there were parts of the Grand Canyon that were that green. That’s really beautiful
