I always heard that it was not very likely that they could ever reproduce the exact THX sound that the "SoundDroid" made in 1982. The huge amount of random numbers generated during the render makes a precise recreation difficult. LucasFilm had lost the original tapes made back then and had the original engineer James A. Moorer try to remake it. He failed many, many times. Fortunately the tapes resurfaced and they were brought into the digital domain again.
