While Netflix has released numerous movies, none have had matched the fanfare surrounding Bright.

Despite receiving negative reviews upon release, the movie – directed by David Ayer and starring Will Smith, both of whom worked on Suicide Squad – was watched by an estimated 11 million people in three days.

Bright also remains the biggest budget Netflix original movie to date, having cost the streaming service $90 million before including marketing costs.

Netflix are now looking to top that huge number. According to Deadline, the company have locked down Michael Bay – director of the bombastic Transformers movies – to helm Six Underground, starring Ryan Reynolds and written by Deadpool scribes Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese.

The publication claims Netflix has committed around $150 million to the project, easily making the movie their biggest yet. Meanwhile, The Hollywood Reporter has revealed some plot points, saying Six Underground revolves around six billionaires who fake their own deaths and form an elite team to take down bad guys.

Skydance – who have worked with Netflix on their originals Grace and Frankie as well as Altered Carbon – will produce, along with Bay.

Netflix have recently taken to purchasing low-to-mid budget movies such as Okja, Mute, and The Meyowitz Stories, or discarded studio features like The Cloverfield Paradox. However, they will also be financing a Bright sequel.
