Hello everybody. I am very happy and just had to share. I made an account and wanted to thank this community.

My grandson is 10 and he has autism. His ability to speak is very limited and we are constantly trying to help him learn how to say basic words. I have been walking and playing Pokemon Go with him for the last few months and during the Fighting event he was able to say “Mankey” and “Chop” (for Machop) very well, and even repeatedly! I am so happy because every word he says is a huge milestone for him.

Thanks to this subreddit I am able to find little Pokémon in our area and keep my grandson interested in going out for regular walks and learning new words (even if they are made up pokemon names). It is great for him because when he asks how I know which pokemon are good fighters I tell him that my friends (silphroad) told me and I believe he imagines a group of grandpas playing PokemonGo.

Talk all the shit you want about Pokémon go. You're probably right. But, one amazing summer both my 14 year old daughter and my 21 year old son and I had so much fun together. We walked all over together and some road trips.

Thank you Pokémon go.

I miss the early heydays of Pokemon Go during summer of 2016. Cities and towns were thriving with pedestrian life. Yes, there were nuisances because of hot spots and such. But it felt like the world was coming together. You go and walk to places people normally don't go to. People were interacting out in public spaces. It was the most real marriage of the digital and physical. Pokemon was about to achieve world peace or something.

The game eventually took a nose dive after a few months, but it was darn amazing while it lasted.
