A friend of mine had a brain tumor. He went through chemo okay, and went back to work, even. Then towards the end of last year, he started having issues that led to more surgery. At the same time, his wife lost her job. He couldn't go back to work, but was told at his job that as soon as he felt like coming back there would be a position for him.
The store just announced they were going out of business.
He and his wife have been fighting tooth and nail to get on some sort of government assistance, including being put on hold for over two HOURS. His wife was told by a social worker that she should have created a GoFundMe as soon as she lost her job.
It's getting to the point where GoFundMe is starting to become a requirement for American health care.
