And as so far as controlling minds, his legs were paralyzed so his mind couldn't control them, so even if he telepathically controlled his own mind (which makes no sense), if there's no connection between mind and legs, it's useless.

Pretty sure in the original comic he used leg braces that he controlled with his mind quite often.
