I went to the Crocker Art Museum for the first time today (even though I've lived in Sacramento basically my whole life). This piece was by far my favorite. A picture doesn't do it justice, since the painting had a texture to it that emulated the texture of the material being paineted (eg stone/glass).

wow, the title really adds such emotion to the painting. I can imagine a heartbreaking story. Love when a gorgeous piece of art has a title to evoke even more imagery.

This is wonderful. I've never seen it before, but recognised the reference in the title immediately - it refers to The Old Curiosity Shop by Charles Dickens. After the death of Little Nell, her grandfather goes to her tomb every day with his lunch, in expectation of meeting her. Of course she never comes, so everyday he goes home reassuring himself that she will come tomorrow.

It's one of DIcken's notorious tear-jerkers
