Green Day fans in the U.K. have orchestrated a campaign to get the band's classic 2004 album American Idiot to the top of the charts for President Donald Trump's upcoming state visit.

Trump's visit will take place July 13 (Friday The 13th, no less), and a fan-started Facebook group wants to send a message to the American leader by encouraging everyone to purchase a download of the album between July 6 and 12 to run the album to the No. 1 spot on the U.K charts for his arrival.

The "Get 'American Idiot' to No.1 for Trump's State Visit" Facebook page has nearly 8,500 followers and a pretty straightforward goal according to their "About" section: "Simple. When President Trump arrives on UK soil for his visit on Friday 13th July 2018, American Idiot will be the official No.1 single. Are you in?"

It's no secret that the gentlemen of Green Day aren't big fans of the current U.S. commander in chief. They started an anti-Trump chant during their AMA's performance and frontman Billie Joe Armstrong has called for the president's impeachment, so it's safe to say the band probably won't be opposed to fans' efforts.

I think a lot of people here are critiquing the choice of American Idiot over other songs based off lyrical content.

I believe the title of the song is meant to be the symbolic gesture here, not the lyrics; as it's more likely for people to recognize the irony of the situation, when viewing the billboard at a glance, than it is to have to know all the lyrics to a particular song.

Ironically, the lyrics are about media-controlled hysteria, but no surprise that nowadays it's more about the sensationalist clickbait title than the actual facts.
