Visitors to a zoo in southeastern China killed one kangaroo and injured another by throwing bricks at them in an attempt to get a reaction from the big marsupials, state media reported.

A 12-year-old female kangaroo suffered a severely injured foot when it was struck by bricks and concrete chunks on February 28 at the Fuzhou Zoo in Fujian province, China Central Television reported.

The kangaroo died days later and an examination by a veterinary surgeon revealed that the cause of death was probably a ruptured kidney after the animal was hit by the projectiles.

A few weeks later, a five-year-old male kangaroo at the same zoo was slightly injured in a similar way, according to the report posted on the network’s website late on Thursday.

The report included pictures of the first kangaroo’s smashed and nearly severed foot, and of the animal receiving treatment via intravenous drip before it died.

Visitors to the zoo were known to try to provoke the kangaroos to get them to display their signature hop.

The report did not mention whether anyone was punished over the matter, but it said the dead female would be stuffed and put on display and the zoo would look to install security cameras to deter visitors from harming animals in future.

China’s lightly regulated zoos and wildlife parks often make news for the wrong reasons, typically involving abysmal conditions in which animals are kept or insensitive actions by visitors in a country where the notion of animal rights is not deeply ingrained.

Among recent examples, horrified visitors to an animal park in eastern China’s Jiangsu province watched last June as tigers killed a donkey that was released into their enclosure by investors angry over a business dispute related to the zoo, according to media reports.

A few months earlier, a zoo visitor died after he was mauled by tigers whose enclosure he entered in the city of Ningbo, south of Shanghai.

I used to be in the Ceremonial Guard in Ottawa Canada. I don't know what it was about Chinese tourists, specifically, but they were a rude bunch. Japanese, Korean and Vietnamese tourist were polite and respectful as hell. But the Chinese committed the most fuckery. Got in the way when you marched, kept trying to make you react (one older lady moved her hand around my crack like she was trying to scratch it for me while her husband took a photo of us together), one even tried grab my rifle. Chinese tourists really cause a ruckess as tourists.

EDIT: So this post blew up and naturally some common responses came up.

Yes. One time a male Chinese tourist did try to grab my rifle. My rifle was at the order arms which means the butt of the rifle is on the ground and my hand holds the barrel which is pointing upward. I felt him try to grab the barrel at least twice (happened years ago so I don't remember how many times he tried). Each time I pulled the rifle away till he took the hint. We were not allowed to react with violence and our chain of command went to great pains to remind us we can't. We weren't allowed reprimand them either. The mounties were there for a reason. I am so jealous of the guards at the tomb of the unknown soldier at the states and guardsmen of the UK who have more freedom to put tourists in their place. We had no such luxury as per our orders.

Some of the Canadian Ceremonial Guards on here have called me out and demanded to know why I didn't call a beat. For those who don't know, a beat is when the guard marches back and forth in the area where they are posted. It's useful for the troop because it keeps the from getting bored and gets the blood flowing so they don't pass out and face plant. Also, it scares the shit out of tourists who get too annoying, which would have been a great solution to my problems. Simple answer as to why I didn't call a beat, the thought hadn't occurred to me at the time. Sure as shit called it afterward to fuck with the guy back and to not let any more tourists near me. Did the same thing with the groper.

Was in a zoo here in Australia a while back and there were walkways between the trees so it was possible to be between the animals. 2 elderly Chinese woman saw a koala in a tree close by. They grabbed a big stick and started hiiting and prodding it so it would move for the video they were making.
