The first time I played Pokémon Yellow I thought the guy across the river was a member of the royal guard because the cave entrance looked like his hat. I'm playing it again 15 years later and it still looks like a big fuzzy hat.
I remember thinking this exact same thing. I saw it and said "Look mom! He's got one of those funny hats!" And I remember her telling me she was surprised Pokémon was a British thing lol.
I literally never went to that cave until I looked up mewtwo online (cause I couldn't find this damn cerulean cave I kept hearing about). Saw him a dozen times, and never realized there was supposed to be a cave there. Just the guardsman hat.
