There was something similar that happened when the 3DS bombed. Voluntary paycuts as they apologized to early adapters for having to cut the price of the 3DS so soon after release and gave early adapters a bunch of free games. Then they vowed to make the 3DS into a strong system.

I don't think we would have the Switch if it wasn't for the Wii U.
Innovation isnt an on/off thing, its progressive.
