Nice work as always man! The thunderstorms made for a unique background in our sound-triggered photos!

Hey all! This photos shows the launch of SpaceX's Falcon 9 rocket last Monday afternoon. The flight-proven Falcon 9 launched an also flight-proven Dragon capsule, carrying thousands of pounds of cargo and research, to the International Space Station.

The Falcon 9 first stage utilized for this flight first flew in August 2017 on the CRS-12 mission, while the Dragon first flew in April 2016 on the CRS-8 mission.

This image was taken with a sound-activated "remote" camera I placed at Space Launch Complex 40 the morning of the launch. I used a Nikon D7000 and Tokina 11-20mm lens. Settings: 1/800 f/13 ISO 320

What thoughts went into the settings for this shot?

I could imagine this being an especially difficult scene to photograph. And there’s not a lot of room for trial and error.

I’m still building intuition with shooting in manual and I still find myself focusing on the meter a lot to avoid over or underexposing.

I wouldn’t even know where to start with a shot like this because there’s no room for trial and error.
