My grandpa used to tell me stories about boxing tournaments on the decks of the US Navy ships in the Pacific during the war. He faked his age to get into the military and join the war against the Japanese. He drove a landing craft and invaded several Japanese held islands. He said his orders were to physically remove any stragglers from the boat and the Marines would be shitting themselves and throwing up on the way to the Beach, and then he would turn around and do it all again with the second wave. It’s just so crazy to me to think about that
