My super awesome dad just got his Ph. D (first doctor in the family, grew up dirt poor) and I’m so proud of him I just had to tell someone. Seriously Pops, you are, by far, the man I respect the most.

That’s awesome!! All of it! Congrats to your Pops that’s an amazing accomplishment!! Not to mention some great parenting, too and way to go to you for supporting him through his studies! I think you’re both great!!!

Tell him this rando on the internet sends HUGE congratulations! That's incredibly impressive and he (and you) should be incredibly proud.

What subject did he tackle?

Quick comment that you can find as a reply:

Just to attribute to his amazing character, I thought you’d like to hear a quick story:

My pops is a school superintendent who just finished his Ph. D in school administration. He’s one of the best in the state (on several education boards, teaches at the college level, turned my hometown school into a National Blue Ribbon school, etc.)

I lived in a fairly small town where my dad got his first job as a super. Even though he got other job offers at MUCH bigger, more prestigious, higher paying schools, he stayed at my small school of 160 for 13 years so I could graduate with my friends and not have to move. This man could literally be a college president by this time (he’s THAT good), but instead he chose to make a stable life for his kids.

As soon as I graduated he took a new job in a poverty-stricken, much larger, very poor school district with a pretty hefty drug problem. One year later all test scores are up, the foreclosed house we bought is fixed up into a nice home for my family, and the town loves him.

What a guy.

EDIT: yes, he literally went through a Ph. D program while renovating a house and starting a new job. Big shoes to fill eh?

EDIT 2: Woah gild? You guys are too kind! That being said, this is my dad’s achievement. I’ll be sure to buy him a meal as a way of “transferring” it! :)
