Jake Williams allegedly drove his truck and horse trailer to a daiquiri shop in Denham Springs and opted to ride the horse, Sugar, back home instead of driving, according to police.

Police stopped him and he was issued a summons for disturbing the peace by intoxication. The Livingston Parish Sheriff's Office said riding a horse does not qualify the man for a DWI.

But Williams told WBRZ-TV that he felt riding the horse was a good idea: "When you get a little too much to drink, why not ride a horse? It's safer that way. The horse knows the way home."

In Alabama, my uncle got a DUI while riding his horse on the side of the road. He rode it everywhere due to having his license suspended from another DUI.

Horses do legitimately know their way home; that's where their food is, and they can be relied on to remember that.

As long as you don't mess with it, it'll head for food.
