Need new coasters? Go to the tile store. Just stick adhesive felt or cork on the underside.

Also, some Lowe's and home Depot have coaster sized carpet samples for free. My husband loves those as coasters. No cork or felt required. They are not as pretty as marble though.

To add to this if you look for natural stone tiles it will absorb water and get ice cold. Water will just pool on marble/ceramic/porcelain tiles. Look in the wall tile section for the 3x3s or 4x4s.

I've done something similar with larger porcelain tiles to set hot pans on the counters or serve at the table. I used the rubber bumpers for cabinet doors on the bottom though. They don't slide.

Coasters with a hard top like marble and glass are shit, you end up with a puddle of water.

And depending on the coaster's weight, sometimes the water makes the glass stick to it... so when you pick up your drink the coaster comes with it part way, then drops off and bangs on the table.

Especially annoying if you also have a glass table. Also those are shit as well.
