Basically, I wanted to buy something that costs $4.95 (cash) or $5.05 (card).

All I have is a $5 bill and when I inserted it, it would not let me complete the transaction because I did not have $4.95 or $5.05 exactly.

I had to walk away with a hungry 5 year old.

EDIT 2: This is a vending machine at ASU

EDIT 3: Many of you are wondering what the hell was $4.95. Originally, I had remembered it as a meal type of thing but that was misleading. It was, in fact, a big (yet still ridiculously overpriced) bag of waffle snacks.

Your kids are starving. Carl's Jr. believes no child should go hungry. Your children will be placed in the custody of Carl's Jr.

What does "5/95 cents" mean? Not sure I follow your choice of wording.
