A man from Saudi Arabia was arrested for flying a rainbow-colored LGBT flag above his home in Jeddah, but had only bought it because one of his children thought it was pretty.

A Saudi doctor has been arrested for flying the rainbow pride flag above his home in Jeddah, according to local media reports. He reportedly had no idea that the flag represented LGBT+ pride, saying that he had bought it from an online retailer after one of his children found the colors pretty.

The Saudi religious police, known as the Committee for the Promotion of Virtue and the Prevention of Vice, arrested the man after he raised the flag on a three-meter pole above his home.

He was reportedly bailed after an investigation, and the flag was removed.

Homosexuality is strictly forbidden in the conservative kingdom, punishable by death. A hashtag discussing the respect of LGBT+ rights went viral in Saudi Arabia and elsewhere in the Middle East earlier this year, however many of the tweets were violent and intolerant.

He should have flown it upside down so his kid could enjoy the pretty colours and he could declare that it was inverted to reflect his anti LGBT stance.
