This is obviously an exaggeration but it speaks volumes about counter terrorism within the States. What’s the point of NSA and FBI information gathering if they can’t prevent incidents like this from happening? Or even at the local level if the police that were contacted “20 times.” The fact that this could have been stopped is both saddening and embarrassing.

Edit 1: fixed typo

They left out "killed his dog" and "confiscated his posessions".

I go to school in a small town in Virginia (Lexington) and I had a professor move like 1.5 hours out of town. He and I are pretty close so I asked him why. This is the day after he decided to move. He told me that a couple nights before he woke up to lights and sirens in his quiet neighborhood. Upon investigating he was ushered back into his home by SWAT personnel. He watched a team breach the door with a battering ram and soon after heard a gunshot. The SWAT team shot the family’s dog and detained the two small children as well as the parents. He later found out that someone had called to report the smell of marijuana and the father of the family had been arrested for possession of 6 grams of marijuana that were rolled in joints— that’s all the search yielded. The man was an affluent business man in Lexington and lived in a very nice house. I don’t know much else and I thought it was kind of crazy, but that’s what he told me, so this shit does happen apparently... at least allegedly.
