Just remember approaching it by saying "hey you want to go on a date?" Isn't going to end as well as if you say "hey I think this thing(movie, event, food place, wherever you want to take them) looks pretty cool want to go with me and check it out?"

Edit: the reason you start with a laid out plan rather than a request for a date is because people are more likely to say yes to laid out plans rather than a request to make plans together.
