Some theaters do care, like the Marcus Cinema I go to technically has a rule against it, but I've been told by employees that as long as you're not obnoxious with how much you bring in, no one will care.
TL;DR bring what you want but dont bring a 3 course meal

It’s a myth that this is a myth.
The 3 biggest chains don’t allow outside food and drink.
But it’s all a matter of how employees decide to enforce the rule I guess..
