As a kid I was going to dentists a lot. And of course I was afraid. You sit there in line, listening to this devil maching buzzing and thinking about all the pain you are about to go through.
But then one day I said to myself "If going through this is inevitable why fear? It doesn't help anyway." And that thought just "turned off" the fear completely, like it never existed. Since then my fear of dentists went away. To this day I am amazed that this trick worked.
Sadly, I haven't been able to pull that off on other fears..
