Today is Lemonhead’s two-year adoption anniversary. He showed up under a car in our driveway after a blizzard with severe malnutrition and a host of other issues. Today he’s twice as big, healthy as ever and a happy, diva Pomeranian.

Edit: thanks SO much for all the love!! It means so much to me. I will give “The Lemon” as we call him some extra kisses today.

I previously posted more info about his healing process here (four months in)

A couple clarification points: *The first thing we did was take him to the vet to see if he was chipped. He was not and had no collar. We also asked around our neighbors and posted in “lost and found” forums in our area. The vet told us it looked like he was suffering from severe neglect. He had fleas, worms, mange, a broken tooth and severe malnutrition. He was also freezing to death. We weren’t sure he was going to make it the first few days.

*After a couple days with no one looking for him, we took him to the animal shelter. My thought was if no one came to pick him up after five days, we would adopt him through them. They took one look at him and told us if we wanted to adopt him, we should turn around and go home - that if they find anything wrong with him, they may have to euthanize if we leave him there (maybe the pics don’t do it justice, but he looked horrible).

*The vet wouldn’t give him vaccinations until he gained some weight and I think proved he was going to make it. He seemed like he had never been to a vet, had never even had dog food! For months, I made him “dog food omelettes” and mixed it in with eggs to get him used to it. He is a spoiled boy! He went from under 7lbs to now 13.5 (healthy weight for him, he is big for a Pom).

*originally we started calling him “Little Monster” - LM for short. LM became Lemmy (Lemmy from Motörhead had just died). Lemmy became Lemon and eventually Lemonhead stuck - it’s funny and suits his personality.

Ha! We had a pom show up at our house randomly in 2014. We tried to find his owners but he appeared to have been dumped. I call him Pumpkinhead (his real name is Cornelius). Poms have funny round heads.
