In Alberta, they have a screen above the lotto machine that shows your if your ticket is a winner or not. And ANY form of win, even a free play, will make a cha-ching sound with a "woo-hoo!" so you have no doubt that you won something.

Pretty much zero room for stealing or lying to people with that system.

I always feel really bad when I hear about crap like this. I work at a store that sells lottery, and some of the older people who like to play have a hard time keeping their wits about them. The number of times I've been asked to just check a stack of tickets is crazy, I coulda just told them Eh no winners and they wouldn't have questioned me.

I could never do that tho, some old guy left a winning 20$ ticket on the counter, I cchecked it, cashed it, and the next time I saw the guy I handed him his twenty.

Then again on the other hand, this one lady asked me to pick her a scratcher, I picked the pink one cause it was bright, and boom, 150k jackpot winner.

Lady didn't even give me a tip, haven't seen her since and that was six months ago.
